Assistant minister loses Sabah STAR post in shock party election result

KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Flovia Ng has been toppled as Sabah STAR women’s wing (Wiranita) chief at the party elections.

The Sabah Community Development People’s Well-being Assistant Minister and Tulid assemblyman only managed to muster 81 votes against 167 votes garnered by her rival Kerry Chee Kheng Moi in a shock result late Saturday (June 22).

Sabah STAR president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, who is Sabah Deputy Chief Minister I, was returned unopposed at the party’s triennial general meeting held at the Sabah International Convention Centre here on Sunday (June 23).

For the three deputy president slots, state Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin (non-Muslim bumiputra), state Works Assistant Minister Datuk Robert Tawik (Muslim bumiputra) retained their positions.

Ellron staved off a challenge by former party coordinator Philip Among while Robert beat off a challenge by Liawan assembly Datuk Annuar Ayub, who is Sabah Energy Corporation chairman.

For the Chinese quota, Sabah Air chairman Datuk Kenny Chua defeated incumbent deputy president Datuk Stephen Teo.

The party also elected six vice presidents and eight supreme council members.

Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Abidin Madingkir were among six elected vice presidents, the others were Suling Isib, Apas Nawawie Saking, Lin Harun, Kong Soon Choi and Beverly Natalie Koh.

The eight supreme council members are former Tandek assemblyman Datuk Anita Baranting, Sabah well-known artist Evaristus Gungkit, Jovilis Majami, Suzy Lojimit, Raplin Samat, Alviana Linus, Fung Len Fui and Maklin Mansiau.
