Negri striker Mika falls victim to snatch theft

PETALING JAYA: Negri Sembilan striker Mika Junco has become the latest addition in a list of unfortunate incidents of crimes against footballers after the Spanish player was robbed by snatch thieves on Sunday.

According to Junco’s social media post on Sunday night, he said he had lost a gold chain to snatch thieves on a motorcycle in Kuala Lumpur.

The robbery had also left him with light bruises on the back of his neck.

Negri confirmed the matter through a statement, adding that a police report had been lodged.

“The incident happened in Kuala Lumpur while Junco was alone. This incident has caused property loss to Junco but he is safe and a police report has been lodged.

“Negri strongly condemn these criminal acts and hopes the authorities will bring the perpetrators to justice,” the statement read.

Junco, whose full name is Miguel Angel Junco Martinez, joined the Deer from Finnish club Kotkan Tyovaen Palloilijat in April for the current Super League season.

The import player’s unfortunate incident comes after several worrying instances of footballers becoming targets of crimes.

Last month, Terengganu’s Akhyar Rashid was attacked by two robbers who assaulted and stole his belongings, followed by Selangor winger Faisal Halim being the victim of an acid attack at a shopping mall a few days later.

Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) midfielder Safiq Rahim then had his car windscreen smashed by unknown individuals at the club’s training ground, before Selangor player Ahmad Khuzaimi Piee had robbers break into his home.
