Netizens Shocked That TVB Actor Benjamin Yuen, 43, Has “Aged Rapidly”, Here’s His Response

TVB drama No Room For Crime has been quite the topic of discussion since its premiere on Monday (Jun 24).

The show, which stars Hong Kong actors including Joel Chan, Owen Cheung, and Benjamin Yuen, has been praised for its plot and well-paced storyline.

Apart from the drama, viewers also had lots to say about Benjamin, more specifically, his appearance.

They noted that the 43-year-old no longer looks as youthful as he did in past roles such as Chui Tin Tong, or Ben Sir, in the second and third seasons of popular TVB drama Line Walker, which aired in 2017 and 2019 respectively.

Some fans remarked that Benjamin, now a dad, has “aged really rapidly.” He and wife, TVB actress Bowie Cheung, welcomed son Yuen Yau Hei in December last year.

“Why did Tin Tong age so much? Is this Chui Tin Tong or Chui Tin Tong’s dad? He actually looks older than [47-year-old] Joel in this show. Men also need to put some effort into maintaining their looks!” said one fan on Xiao Hong Shu.

Others also accused Benjamin of “neglecting to maintain his looks”, leading to his “haggard appearance”.

“He looked so old in many of his scenes,” and “There’s no reason for him to age so quickly,” were just some harsh comments.

However, some defended the actor, saying that he was “at the peak of his career” and “looked his best” in dramas like Line Walker and A Fist Within Four Walls (2016), and it was unfair to compare his current appearance to past looks.

One netizen mentioned that Benjamin had to lose a significant amount of weight for 2019 drama The Defected, which took a toll on his health and contributed in his older appearance.

The criticism did not go unnoticed by the star, who responded: “I played Tin Tong seven years ago, it’s very normal to age.”
