Zhou Xun, 49, Mocked For Wearing Reading Glasses On Stage To Receive Best Actress Award

All eyes were on Chinese actress Zhou Xun when she won Best Actress for her performance in legal drama Imperfect Victim at the Shanghai TV Festival’s Magnolia Awards last Friday (Jun 28).

Not only did the 49-year-old pull a surprise win beating hot favourite Tang Yan (Blossoms Shanghai), she created quite a stir when she wore her reading glasses on stage to accept her award.

Some netizens mocked the actress for having lao hua, while others were tickled by it.

Well, the actress, ever the cool cucumber, isn’t bothered by all that.

When asked about her spectacles backstage at the awards, Zhou Xun explained that she could have corrected her long-sightedness but she chose to experience living with lao hua.

“This is also a new experience. For instance, when portraying a character with hyperopia, if you’ve worn reading glasses before, you’d know when to wear them and when not to. I think this is a very authentic experience,” she said.

She’s not self conscious at all.
We think she looks pretty cute in the gold-rimmed frames in a geeky chic kind of way.
The glasses even match her trophy.
