HK superstar Andy Lau nearly falls from 4m-high platform, apologises for risky stunt

Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau gave fans a scare after performing a dangerous stunt during his recent concert in Shanghai, China.

On July 5, Lau performed a daring move by sliding on his knees along an elevated platform, about 4m above the ground, without any safety equipment or precautions.

In a viral video capturing the moment, fans can be heard screaming as the 62-year-old narrowly avoided a fall by grabbing onto the slippery surface.

The clip sparked heated discussion online, with many netizens urging Lau to be more careful and not do any risky stunts in his future shows.

“Why does he need to perform such dangerous stunts at this age?” said one netizen.

“My idol, you are no longer young, please be careful,” another added.

Some have also reminded Lau about his 2017 accident, in which he was thrown off a horse while shooting a commercial in Thailand.

At the time, the singer-actor suffered a pelvic injury that left him unable to work for over six months.

Lau apologised to fans at his concert the next day, explaining that he didn’t realise how slippery the stage was.

“It was an accident. I’m sorry. I will take good care of myself,” he said.

Many concertgoers noted that the height of the platform had been lowered at the July 6 show. Lau was also seen kneeling down at a safe distance from the platform’s edge.

Lau is scheduled to bring his world tour, Today … Is The Day, to the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur this October.

Tickets to all four nights of his show – Oct 24, 25, 26 and 27 – have been snapped up in just two hours.

Lau last performed in KL in 2019.
