QuickCheck: Did an ehailing driver abandon his female passenger on the MEX highway?

RECENTLY, a video was circulated online of a female passenger being harassed by an ehailing driver before being abandoned by the roadside.

The video, which the victim recorded, showed the driver getting out of the driver’s seat and threatening the passenger with a water bottle.

The passenger could be heard screaming, “Don’t touch me”, as the driver was seen dragging her out of the car before driving away.

It is claimed that the passenger was left by the roadside on the MEX highway.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said, in a press statement, that the police first noticed the video on X (formerly known as Twitter) on July 4. However, the incident happened much earlier.

“The victim lodged a police report, and the police have arrested the suspect, a 28-year-old local man,” he said, adding that the suspect was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code on June 19 and was fined RM2,000 by the courts in Kuala Lumpur.
