Peja willing to give way to Hamzah to be Bersatu no. 2, says Muhyiddin

SELAYANG: Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu is willing to make way for Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin to be the Bersatu deputy president, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Bersatu president said Ahmad Faizal, who is one of the party’s founders, had agreed to take a “step back” and allow Hamzah to assume the deputy president role.

“Peja (Ahmad Faizal) is ready to step back and take up the offer for the vice-president position.

“I know some want (to contest) the position but this is part of the formula I have used to recognise the contributions of Ahmad Faizal, as he is willing to give space and opportunity to Hamzah,” he said in a press conference at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) Selayang here on Sunday (July 13).

Muhyiddin also said Bersatu had drawn up a proposed list for its top five leadership posts ahead of its party election in October.

The names proposed are Hamzah as deputy president, Ahmad Faizal as vice-president, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali as secretary-general as well as for Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin and Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee to defend their vice-president posts.

However, he said this should not deter party members from challenging for top leadership positions.

Muhyiddin said he was given the mandate to broker negotiations ahead of the Bersatu elections to ensure unity within the party.
