QuickCheck: Did bare-chested durian sellers stir up an official inquiry?

AS THE durian season arrives, the heat isn’t the only thing turning up in Kajang. A trio of shirtless “strongmen” selling the King of Fruits in Kajang has caught the public’s attention.

With muscles flexed and cleavers in hand, these vendors have stirred more than just social media buzz—they’ve prompted an official response.

But is the Health Ministry really stepping in to scrutinise these unconventional sales tactics?

Verdict:

TRUE

The Health Ministry will investigate a case involving shirtless men selling durian in Kajang, confirmed Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni.

Responding to reports received via social media, the ministry is taking the matter seriously, as it raises concerns regarding personal hygiene in the food and beverage sector.

“The approach of flexing muscles to sell food is not something we condone,” stated the Deputy Health Minister at a press conference on July 12.

He stressed that while the viral video of the men was intended to boost sales, such behaviour sets a poor standard for the industry.

Authorities have already made contact with the individuals involved, who claimed the video was created solely for content purposes.

However, the Deputy Health Minister made it clear that regardless of intent, the act is unacceptable.

The ministry is now considering the appropriate actions to take against those responsible.

The video in question showcased the men at Durian Papa Muda and was captioned “Suddenly I feel like eating durian”, quickly becoming a sensation online.
