Opposition urged to come forward to discuss amendments to Anti-Party Hopping Act

SHAH ALAM: The opposition should come forward to discuss amendments to the Anti-Party Hopping Act, says Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (pic).

This was in response to the opposition’s dissatisfaction over the retention of parliamentary seats by the six Bersatu MPs who have switched their allegiance to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Amirudin believes the amendments to address existing loopholes in the Anti-Party Hopping Act should be initiated by the government as it requires a constitutional amendment.

He also lamented that the “rogue six” situation was caused by Bersatu itself.

“Bersatu was in the government when the Anti-Party Hopping Act was tabled. They could have addressed the loopholes back then,” he told reporters after officiating the Appointment Letters Presentation Ceremony for the 2024-2025 Chairman of Selangor Traditional Villages Development and Safety Committee (JPKK) at Concorde Hotel, Shah Alam, on Monday (July 15).

On the recent exchange of statements between PKR Youth and Umno Youth over Pakatan Harapan’s defeat in the Sungai Bakap by-election, Amirudin called for moderation in public opinions.

“It is normal to have different opinions. Most importantly, all component parties must respect the unity government’s main framework, which is to maintain stability and restore the country’s economy,” said Amirudin, who is also PKR vice-president.
