But Chinese stars such as Dylan Wang and Bai Jingting, who have recently ventured to hawking food items, are not having it easy and have come under fire for charging sky-high prices

In all honestly, we doubt that fervent fans will think twice before dropping cash for these items.

A recent pop-up bakery in Shanghai fronted by Dylan Wang was criticised by netizens as a scam for charging between 88 yuan (S$16) to 118 yuan (S$22) for colourful and flavoured bread.

Netizens also aired their outrage at fellow Chinese actor Bai Jingting’s blatant pricing at his café in the city.

In pictures posted online, Jingting is seen charging 21 yuan (S$4) for two tiny cookies packed in unassuming plastic packaging, prompting a netizen to comment, “I thought it was biscuits for hamsters.”

Since pictures of these celebrity-fronted items went viral, some questioned if there are any pricing regulations set by local authorities.

Fans naturally came out to defend their stars saying such costs are justified due to their name being used.

One comment even read, “The price is clearly stated, and no one is forced to buy.”

Dylan’s fans went the extra mile by listing down rental and renovation costs, which came up to about 2mil yuan (S$370K), and said only 100 loaves are baked daily.

Customers are also given a gift bag chock full of items that included tea bags, aromatherapy tablets among others.

They also hit back at his haters saying with everything considered, Dylan is not making much of a profit as the pop up is only open till August 31.
