‘I’m a guy, I’m an idiot’: Harith Iskander blames himself for pending divorce

KUALA LUMPUR: Renowned Malaysian comedian Harith Iskander has publicly addressed his pending divorce, acknowledging his personal shortcomings as the primary cause.

The 57-year-old candidly spoke about the challenges he has faced in his marriage to Dr Jezamine Lim, highlighting that his own actions played a significant role in their relationship’s breakdown.

“I have to admit that I made mistakes,” Harith said in an interview with The Rakyat Post.

When asked the real reason behind their decision to split, Harith said: “I’m a guy, I’m an idiot. I acted in ways I should not have… I’m not going to say oh I did this, didn’t do that, I’m not going to come up with any excuses, I have done stupid things that many men do and you would think I would know better at my age.”

Harith did not divulge more about the problem they were facing for the sake of their children, adding that they would deal with it privately.

The couple, who have been married for over a decade and share three children, have been a prominent fixture in the local entertainment scene.

Meanwhile, Jezamine said that their focus would remain on the well-being of their children and would navigate the transition as smoothly as possible.

She also said that despite being divorced, they will continue to care for their children and be more flexible to fit the kids’ schedules.

“All have been listed on paper. At the moment, the matter has been managed well and accordingly,” she said in the interview hosted by fellow celebrity and host Daphne Iking.

Jezamine said she would continue to be Harith’s manager despite the changes in their relationship.

“I will still manage Harith because I’m very passionate about what he does,” she added.

On July 9, the entertainment scene was abuzz when news broke that Jezamine had filed for divorce from Harith at the Syariah Lower Court in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur.

Last Friday (July 12), Syariah lawyer Datuk Akberdien Abdul Kadir said that Harith and Jezamine’s divorce case had been postponed to a later date due to “unavoidable circumstances”.

The hearing was initially scheduled to take place on July 15.
