Air Selangor says one out of four affected water treatment plants has resumed operations

AIR Selangor reports that the Rantau Panjang Water Treatment Plant (WTP) has resumed operations as of 6pm Tuesday (July 23).

“However, water sampling tests for Sungai Selangor Phase 1 (SSP1), SSP2 and SSP3 still recorded a reading of 1 TON (threshold odour number),” said Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Adam Saffian Ghazali in a statement.

“Following the temporary shutdown of these (four) WTPs, seven regions ‒ Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor ‒ are experiencing unscheduled water disruption.”

The shutdown was due to an odour pollution incident at Sungai Kundang and Sungai Sembah.

However, Air Selangor did not indicate when water supply would resume.

“Alternative assistance through water tankers has been mobilised to the affected areas by giving priority to critical premises such as hospitals, clinics, dialysis centres and funeral service centres during this period of unscheduled water supply disruption,” said the water agency.
