Nenggiri polls: DAP’s presence during campaigning could be detrimental, says Umno veteran

PETALING JAYA: DAP’s presence on the ground for the Nenggiri by-election may confuse voters, who are mostly Malay, said Malaysian Umno Veteran secretary Datuk Mustapha Yaakub.

“We respect the wishes of DAP to help in the Nenggiri by-election. But their presence is not suitable because there are no Chinese communities in the villages there, he said in a statement on Friday (July 26)

“The natives are Malay and speak Malay; the majority are Muslim. If the DAP machinery comes to the field to help, it could confuse the indigenous community and affect the support and votes for the Barisan Nasional candidate,” he said.

Mustapha added that DAP’s presence could also be used by the opposition against Umno and Barisan.

“Therefore, it is better that the DAP machinery help in other ways to support the work and campaign in Nenggiri,” he said.
