Landowner ordered to clean up illegal waste site in Teluk Panglima Garang

THE landowner of a site at Jalan Sijangkang Utama in Teluk Panglima Garang, Kuala Langat, has been directed to clean up the area within 180 days after illegal waste dumping was found on his property.

Selangor health and environment committee chairman Jamaliah Jamaluddin said that if the landowner fails to comply, the state could forfeit the land.

She said that the landowner has been issued a Notice 7A to remedy the breach of conditions under Section 128 of the National Land Code, as land zoned for agricultural purposes has been used as an illegal waste collection and disposal site.

“The state government further reserves the right to forfeit the land if the owner fails to comply with the directions stated in the Notice 7A,” she said in a statement on Monday (July 29).

She said that during the visit, it was found that commercial and industrial solid waste had been discarded, and burning had also taken place at the site.

Jamaliah said increased monitoring would be carried out in the area by MPKL to ensure that no further waste disposal could occur at the site.

“CCTV has also been installed at entrance roads to the area. The fire-extinguishing operation was carried out by the Selangor Disaster Management Unit involving MPKL, the Fire and Rescue Department, the police, and the Civil Defence Force,” she said.

Jamaliah added that the MPKL has also issued a notice under Section 70A(1) of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974, which states that no person may commence or carry out any work without the approval of the local authority.

Non-compliance could result in a maximum five-year jail sentence, a RM50,000 maximum fine, or both upon sentencing.

She said further proposals to resolve the issue were also discussed at a recent Selangor Solid Waste Management Steering Committee meeting, including closing the access road to all unauthorised people.

“I was told that the Selangor Menteri Besar (Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari) takes such irresponsible actions very seriously. He is monitoring the issue closely and will conduct a site visit if the issue remains unresolved,” added Jamaliah.
