Meta also removes Muhyiddin’s post of condolences for Ismail Haniyeh

PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s post of condolences for assassinated Hamas Political Bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh has also been taken down by Meta.

In a post on Facebook Thursday (Aug 1), the administrator of the Perikatan Nasional chairman’s Facebook page said that no further information was provided after the post was taken down.

Meanwhile, Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, who is also Bersatu secretary-general, questioned Meta’s decision to take down Muhyiddin’s post in a Facebook post of his own.

“What is wrong with Muhyiddin, as Perikatan chairman, expressing condolences on Haniyeh’s death?

“Is it an offence to condemn an atrocity that took a life to the extent that such a statement is removed? Is condemning brutal killings and denouncing genocide classified as violating community standards?” Hamzah asked in his post on Thursday.

Hamzah also posted screenshots of Muhyiddin’s account, which included an automated warning.

“Malaysians should see this as yet another attempt to undermine the condemnation of atrocities and injustices”, he said.

“Most importantly, the public wants to see a clearer and firmer stance from the Malaysian government towards the actions of international companies like these,” he said in his post.
