Police reports lodged over ‘free Bible courses’ outside Surau Warisan
MELAKA: Several police reports have been lodged over the promotion of “free Bible courses” outside Surau Warisan in Bandar Hilir here, says state police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zainol Samah.
He said two reports were lodged at the Melaka Tengah district, while one was lodged in Alor Gajah and another in Merlimau.
DCP Zainol said that the main report was lodged by a 51-year-old official from the Melaka Religious Department (JAIM) on Friday (Aug 2).
He said that the report detailed that two women were seen in a TikTok video distributing pamphlets offering such courses at the public area at Bandar Hilir here recently.
“The JAIM official in his report said he had watched the video uploaded by an individual by the name of Zolkifli Idris and wanted the police to act on two individuals seen distributing the materials close to the stairways leading to the surau,” he said on Saturday (Aug 3).
DCP Zainol said an investigation is being carried out under Section 298A of the Penal Code on issues related to religion, causing disharmony, disunity, hatred, malicious intent, or detrimental to unity.
“We will also summon the two women seen in the video to assist in our probe,” he added.
