Smashing Aaron-Wooi Yik come from brink of defeat to win bronze
PETALING JAYA: A sensational comeback by men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik has given Malaysia their first medal at the Paris Olympics.
The Malaysians came back from the brink of defeat to pull off a superb 16-21, 22-20, 21-19 win against Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen of Denmark to claim the bronze medal at the Adidas Arena in Port de la Chapelle on Sunday (August 4).
World No. 2 Astrup-Rasmussen brought the heat as they held the lead throughout a closely fought first game.
But Aaron-Wooi Yik weren’t going down without a fight as they managed to hold the Danish pair at four match points in the second game to claw their way back and force the rubber game.
It was then Aaron-Wooi Yik who took charge as they led throughout the third game and came through some anxious moments before they sealed it to eventually take home the bronze medal.
Aaron-Wooi Yik previously won the bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
