HK actress Annie Liu used to be afraid of Chow Yun Fat: ‘I was very shy’

Hong Kong actress Annie Liu made her on-screen debut in 1977 after joining TVB’s artiste training class but gradually faded out of the spotlight after her marriage in 1986.

In a recent interview with Hong Kong media, Liu reflected on her entertainment career and revealed that she used to be afraid of movie star Chow Yun Fat.

Describing herself as a shy person, she recounted feeling overwhelmed by Chow’s exuberant demeanour.

The pair starred opposite one another in the TVB dramas Giant (1978) and The Bund (1980).

“He used to be very mischievous when he was young. I wasn’t used to that more uninhibited style of play.

“There was a scene involving some physical contact which made me uneasy, and I was very shy at the time,” the 66-year-old said.

Liu recalled leaving the set in tears as she felt too overwhelmed. She also admitted to feeling nervous seeing Chow, 69, afterwards and would avoid him.

“That was how I felt back then,” the actress said, adding that she embraces such interactions now and wouldn’t mind interacting with Chow.

Liu is known for her roles in The Return Of The Condor Heroes (1983) and Floating Life (1996).

She put her acting career on halt in 1986, when she married former photographer Alain Yip, and left Hong Kong to live in Australia before returning in 2000.

Liu and Yip, who have two daughters together, divorced in 2012.
