Umno president to meet Johor MB on Mahkota candidate, says Khaled Nordin

KOTA TINGGI: Umno will work hard to ensure that the Mahkota state seat will continue to be under the party in the coming by-election.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin has refused to make any predictions and said that what needs to be done is to continue serving the people.

“Of course, when we are contesting an election, the aim is to win, but I do not want to make any predictions.

“We must work hard,” he said when met after a working visit to the Sedili Stingless Bee Knowledge Transfer Programme organised by Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) at the PPRT Housing in Kampung Sedili Kecil here on Monday (Aug 26).

Asked to comment on the details and candidate for the Mahkota state seat, Mohamed Khaled said that he would leave the matter to party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“There will be a meeting between the president and Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi this evening, let’s wait for the result,” he said.

The Election Commission has set Sept 28 as polling day for the by-election in Johor, while the nomination and early voting dates are Sept 14 and 24, respectively.

The by-election was called following the death of the incumbent assemblyman, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on Aug 2.
