Hong Kong actor Bosco Wong found himself caught up in controversy, after a video of him lashing out at a waitress in a Malaysia restaurant went viral earlier this week.
The star was in Malaysia to promote new gangster flick The Unwavering Brotherhood, the third instalment in a franchise that began with 2012’s Triad.
The video, which was posted by a netizen, shows Bosco, 43, slamming the table and losing his temper over a plate of stir-fried beef noodles.
“Get your manager out here. Are you crazy?” he yelled at the terrified waitress.
He appeared to calm down when the manager served him a plate of nasi lemak, but lost his cool again when he noticed there were peanuts in the dish.
When the manager offered to bring him a new plate, Bosco slammed the table again and shouted: “What time is it already! I still have to wait…”
Bosco is known for being friendly and easy-going, so fans were surprised by his outburst and diva behaviour.
However, some netizens said it’s “obviously an act” and mocked him for his “exaggerated” and “bad acting”.
Furthermore, they noticed a microphone attached to Bosco’s shirt and speculated this was a publicity stunt for his new movie, in which he plays a gangster.
After the video went viral, Mega Films Distribution, which distributes The Unwavering Brotherhood in Malaysia, posted a video and statement on Facebook and Xiao Hong Shu clarifying that they were trying to recreate the fierce and intense vibe of the movie.
“We appreciate fans for standing up for justice. Bosco Wong, as the star of The Unwavering Brotherhood, has always led by example and has no intention of bullying anyone!” it said.
