Man escapes unhurt after crashing car into drain in Tebrau

JOHOR BARU: A 22-year-old male escaped unhurt after losing control of his car, which ended up in a big drain along Jalan Dato Onn 1 in Bandar Dato Onn here.

Tebrau fire and rescue station operation commander Noor Azhan Ahmad said a distress call notifying about the incident was received at 1.19am in the wee hours of Monday (Sept 2) morning.

“We immediately deployed eight firemen together with one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicle and one Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) to the scene.

“When the rescue team arrived at the scene some eight minutes later, there was a road accident that occurred along the traffic light junction with car in the drain,” he said here on Monday.

Noor Azhan added that firemen went down to the drain where they found that the driver was not trapped inside the car.

“The driver was traumatised when we found him and immediately provided him with early medical treatment before using the EMRS to send him to a nearby hospital for further medical action,” he said adding that the operation ended at around 1.55am.

Meanwhile, Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat, who confirmed the incident, said the driver did not sustain any physical injuries.

“The incident is believed to have happened when the car driver, driving from Kompleks Mutiara Johor, lost control of his vehicle before ending up in the drain.

“Police have opened up an investigation against the driver for failing to control the vehicle,” he said, urging those who witnessed the incident to lodge a report at Johor Baru South traffic police headquarters or contact its hotline at 07-218 2222.
