Number of dengue cases drop in ME34, one death recorded
KUALA LUMPUR: The number of dengue cases for 34th epidemiological week (ME34) from Aug 18 to 24 dropped to 1,980 cases with one death due to complications, compared to 2,294 the previous week.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said the cumulative number of cases of dengue reported until the ME34 was 94,807, compared to 78,277 cases for the same period last year.
“There are 84 deaths due to dengue complications reported (this year) compared to 55 deaths in the same period for 2023,” he said in a statement on Monday (Sept 2), adding that the number of hotspots reported for ME34 was 85 localities compared to 91 localities the week before.
From the total, 68 hotspots were in Selangor, four each in Negeri Sembilan and Kelantan, three each in The Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya as well as Perak, two hotspots in Sabah and one in Kedah.
For chikungunya surveillance, he said two cases were reported in ME34, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 68, and no chikungunya outbreak was reported in the ME34.
“For Zika surveillance, 1,781 blood samples, eight urine samples and three cerebrospinal fluid samples were taken for Zika screening and were all negative,” he added. – Bernama
