Two Myanmar nationals remanded for trying to bribe auxiliary policeman

GEORGE TOWN: Two Myanmar nationals have been remanded for five days to assist in investigations about a RM500 bribe to an auxiliary policeman.

The men aged 31 and 53, who tried to conceal their faces with their orange Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) detainee outfits will be remanded till Monday (Sept 23).

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Nadratun Naim Mohd Saidi at the Magistrate’s Court here on Thursday (Sept 19).

The two suspects, both sub-contractors were arrested at the MACC Headquarters at 3pm, Wednesday (Sept 18).

According to MACC, the two men allegedly did not have a license to work as sub-contractors carrying out water filter installation works.

“They are accused of allegedly giving bribes to the auxiliary policeman amounting to RM500 to release their workers who have work permits in other states.

“Their workers have fake Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) cards which does not allow them to enter the project site,” a representative for MACC said.

The case is being investigated under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009.
