Water disruption in Seberang Prai Tengah, Seberang Prai Selatan, on Oct 4

GEORGE TOWN: The water supply in Seberang Prai Tengah and Seberang Prai Selatan will be disrupted next Friday (Oct 4), affecting some 97,000 account holders.

According to a Thursday (Sept 26) statement by the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) chief executive officer K. Pathmanathan, the water supply disruption was necessary to repair a section of a main water supply pipeline near the Politeknik Seberang Prai campus in Permatang Pauh. The pipeline had developed a leak after being damaged by a third-party contractor.

“The leak affects water supply services in Seberang Prai Tengah and Seberang Prai Selatan.

“The 24-hour scheduled water supply interruption from 10pm on Friday to 10pm on Saturday (Oct 5) is to connect and commission a new pipeline section,” he said.

Pathmanathan added that PBAPP’s on-site investigations revealed that the leaking section is located about 15m below a big monsoon drain.

He said that PBAPP must shut valves along a major 1.2m (diameter) treated water pipeline to carry out the repair.

Among the areas affected are Kuala Juru, Taman Mengkudu, Juru Heights, Taman Cendana, Taman Cendana Indah, Taman Seri Cendana, Taman Cendana Emas, Taman Cendana Permai, IKS Juru, Juru Estate, Kawasan Juru, Bukit Minyak Industrial Area, JMTI and factories near to JMTI, Flat Bayu Mutiara, Block Q Apartment Permata, Depot Juru, Bukit Minyak, Juru, Pangsapuri Permata Bandar Perda, Taman Janggus, Taman Maluri and Taman Pauh Damai.
