80-Yr-Old Grandmother Of 3 In Miss Universe Korea Pageant; Only Started Modelling At 75
Here’s a sign to never give up on your dreams no matter how old you may be.
The Miss Universe Korea pageant finals will take place today (Sep 30) and among the Top 32 finalists, one delegate in particular has caught the attention of many.
80-year-old fashion model Choi Soon-Hwa.
The grandmother of three only started training to be a model at 71, and officially made her runway debut at Seoul Fashion Week in 2018, when she was 75.
She has since appeared in many fashion shows and on magazine covers for titles like Harper’s Bazaar, and Elle.
Speaking to CNN in an interview, Soon-Hwa said: “I want to stun the world. ‘How is an 80-year-old lady so healthy? How did she maintain that body? What’s your diet?’”
Soon-Hwa has received an outpouring of support from netizens, many of whom are rooting for her in the competition.
This year’s Miss Universe pageant saw a change in its eligibility criteria — all women aged 18 and above were able to participate, regardless of their marital and parental status.
Miss Universe Canada saw a 58-year-old contestant, while the oldest Miss Universe Argentina contestant was 60. Unfortunately, both women did not qualify for their respective finals, which makes Soon-Hwa our best bet to finally see an older woman in the Miss Universe pageant.
Your grandma may be cool, but is she as cool as Soon-Hwa?
