Tragic car crash claims lives of two salesmen in Marang

MARANG: Two salesmen died after the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) they were travelling in with two others hit a water puddle, went out of control, and crashed into a tree.

The accident occurred at KM 45 of the Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan road, near Kampung Pasir Putih Merchang, Marang, at about 4.30pm on Sunday (Nov 17).

The victims were identified as Ahmad Farid Izwan Mohd, 24, and his friend Muhammad Amir Ikmal Hashim, 20.

The scene became chaotic after the vehicle carrying the victims skidded and crashed into a tree.

Marang District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Sofian Redzuan, stated that at the time of the incident, the vehicle was travelling from Kemaman towards Kuala Terengganu.

He said the Nissan Grand Livina struck a puddle at a bend, causing it to skid and crash into a tree on the left side of the road.

“Both victims, who were in the back seat, sustained severe head and body injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

“The driver, Muhammad Shafiq Aizad Yusaini, 26, and the front passenger, Muhammad Razlan Rashidi Abd Razak, 19, sustained head and arm injuries.

“The injured victims were taken to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu for further treatment, while the deceased were transported to the Forensic Unit at Dungun Hospital,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
