Singaporean woman killed in accident on NSE

KULAI: A female Singaporean has been killed and her boyfriend badly injured after the motorcycle they were on crashed along the North-South Expressway near Sedenak here.

Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said police were notified about the fatal accident at around 9.15am on Tuesday (Dec 10).

“The high-powered motorcycle, driven by a 23-year-old Singaporean man and his 21-year-old pillion rider girlfriend, was heading back to Singapore from Kuala Lumpur.

“The motorcyclist lost control of his vehicle and hit the steel road divider,” he said in a statement here on Tuesday (Dec 10).

ACP Tan added the rider pillion sustained serious head injuries and died at the scene while the rider injured his legs.

He said the deceased and the surviving victim were sent to the Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Kulai Hospital here.

In another incident, a trailer collided with a lorry at KM53.5 near Simpang Renggam.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the incident occurred at 1.57pm, resulting in a 10km-long traffic jam on the highway.

“The lorry, driven by a 38-year-old local man, had stopped on the emergency lane due to a mechanical problem.

“However, the back end of the lorry was (protruding into) the left lane and there were no safety cones used,” he said adding that the 46-year-old trailer driver was unable to avoid the stationary lorry.

ACP Bahrin said the trailer driver was stuck inside the vehicle and the lorry driver was wedged underneath the front right tyre.

“Firemen successfully rescued both drivers and sent them to the Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Kulai Hospital.

“The trailer driver broke his legs while the lorry driver sustained some cuts on his arms and legs,” he said.
