Tow-truck driver killed in shootout with cops in Kelantan
PETALING JAYA: A tow-truck driver, wanted by police was shot dead in a hail of gunfire at Jalan Kubang Pasu, Kota Bharu.
According to Sinar Harian, Kelantan police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said that the 31-year-old had a police record with 24 prior offences relating to various crimes including drugs.
“My men had pursued the man during a crime prevention operation in Melor when he sped away in his car.
“Upon reaching the scene around 5.30am on Friday, he got out of the vehicle and acted aggressively by firing shots at my men, who returned fire in self-defence,” he said when met at the scene on Friday (Dec 13).
The man was killed in the shootout and police found a semi-automatic pistol, a fake pistol and a machete at the scene.
Also found at the scene was a package of tobacco which police believe was meant to be smuggled into prison.
“We are also investigating if there others involved in this case,” he said.
The man’s body has been sent to Hospital Tengku Anis for post-mortem.
