Police in Taiping, Perak have arrested a woman for allegedly setting a motorcycle on fire.
Taiping OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Nasir Ismail reported that on Dec 26 at about 4.27pm, a man lodged a report regarding the woman setting fire to a motorcycle at Jalan Masjid in Pokok Assam.
The incident quickly went viral on social media.
ACP Mohamad Nasir noted that the video showed a woman pouring liquid, suspected to be petrol, onto the motorcycle before igniting it.
Acting on the information, a team from the Taiping District Police Headquarters arrested a woman in her 40s at 7.30pm on Dec 26 for further investigations.
Initial investigations revealed that the motive for the incident stemmed from the suspect’s dissatisfaction with the actions of a motorcycle repossession agent attempting to seize the motorcycle due to 20 months of unpaid instalments.
ACP Mohamad Nasir added that the case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire.
