King lauds nation’s economic showing, says every citizen must benefit

KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia has lauded the country’s economic performance, urging for its benefits to be enjoyed by all the people and not just certain groups.

His Majesty also congratulated Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the government on Malaysia’s achievements.

“I hope this will continue improving.

“However, the government must ensure this good performance will benefit all the rakyat and not just benefit certain quarters,” His Majesty said in his royal address when opening the First Meeting of the 4th Term of the 15th Parliament here on Monday (Feb 3).

His Majesty also expressed gratitude for the country’s economic development, including its domestic performance and investments which are constantly improving.

“The ringgit’s value is strengthening and unemployment rates remain low.

“Last year, the gross domestic product was 5.9% across multiple sectors. The country’s total trade also exceeded RM2 trillion for the first nine months,” His Majesty said.

His Majesty also welcomed targeted subsidies, stressing that they must reach only those who are truly eligible.

“I urge that these subsidies are distributed efficiently and effectively to those who are eligible,” His Majesty said.
