Cops arrest foreign couple kicked off China-bound flight after causing ruckus

SEPANG: A foreign couple who “acted” mentally unstable while on a plane bound for Jieyang Chaosan, China, at KL International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2 here, have been confirmed not to have any mental health issues, Malay language daily Sinar Harian reports.

KLIA deputy OCPD Supt Albany Hamzah told Sinar Harian that the Sultan Idris Shah Hospital in Serdang had confirmed this on Wednesday (Feb 12).

He said, subsequently, the couple were arrested at around 7.30pm the same day by the KLIA district police headquarters Criminal Investigation Department.

“Both will be charged tomorrow (Feb 14) in the Sepang court,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Feb 13).

In the incident at around 1.20pm on Feb 9, a report was received by the KLIA 2 police station from security personnel regarding a disturbance in the concerned aircraft where a foreign woman was behaving in a mentally unstable manner, disturbing other passengers.

According to Supt Albany, the woman and her partner were then escorted out of the aircraft by security personnel.

He added that during the investigation, the couple failed to cooperate and acted as if they were not sane and were aggressive.

“The police, with the help of the Health Ministry, then took both foreigners to Sultan Idris Shah Hospital for examinations as they were suspected of being mentally unstable before being detained in the ward.

“A urine test also confirmed the suspects were drug-free,” he said.
