Mad Rush For Free Eggs After Lorry Carrying 2,500 Trays Of Eggs Overturns On Highway In Malaysia

It seems some Malaysians found themselves stocking up on eggs in an un-eggs-pected way earlier this week.

A lorry transporting thousands of eggs skidded and flipped over after being hit by a truck from behind on a Malaysian highway at about 5.30am on Wednesday (Feb 19).

Fortunately, the driver and an assistant in the vehicle were unharmed, though the same can’t be said for about 2,500 trays of eggs, many of which had cracked open.

Following the accident, locals flocked to the scene, many with baskets to haul home cartons of eggs for free.

But fret not — they weren’t stealing.

In fact, the egg company allowed people to take their pick, since they wouldn’t be able to sell the eggs anyway.

In a media interview, the driver’s assistant, Mohd Izzat Izzudin confirmed that it was the company’s intention since many were already broken, although from the looks of it, there were a number of trays not affected by the crash and were still salvageable.

A netizen who claimed to have rushed over after seeing the accident (and free-for-all eggs) said. “I only went over after getting the company’s permission and I will be sharing them with my neighbours.”

How egg-citing!

Many netizens praised the owner of the egg company for the good deed and said that it would go a long way for families celebrating Hari Raya Puasa.

“Time to make cookies! Raya is near,” read a comment.

With the rising cost of living, we would have jumped at the opportunity too.

However, Malaysian health experts have highlighted that some of these eggs might have been exposed to potential contamination, deeming them unfit for consumption.

They warned people, especially pregnant women, children, and those with weakened immunity, to exercise caution.

We would have rushed over too
