Hong Kong singer-songwriter Khalil Fong dies aged 41

HONG KONG: Khalil Fong Tai-tung, Hong Kong-based singer-songwriter, producer and composer, has died at the age of 41, after fighting illness for five years, according to his music label.

The singer “gently and gracefully bid farewell” on Feb 21, Fong’s independent label, FU MUSIC said in a statement posted on social media.

“With unwavering optimism in the face of a relentless illness for five years, Khalil Fong gently and gracefully bid farewell to this world on the morning of Feb 21, 2025, stepping into the next realm of existence to carry forward his purpose and dreams,” said the record label.

“The music and graphic novels he gifted to the world remain an eternal testament to his luminous spirit, a timeless treasure for generations to come,” the post reads.

Born in Hawaii, United States, in 1983, Fong spent his childhood in Chinese cities Shanghai and Guangzhou.

He began playing guitar at the age of 15 and expanded his musicianship later after moving to Hong Kong, where he gained fame and released his first album Soulboy in 2005.

Best known for his distinctive voice and unique music blend of Soul, Funk, and R&B, the musician had garnered many fans in the Chinese music scene with his popular hit Long Song, This Love, and Three Tour.

Fong had also been involved in songwriting and had produced songs for renowned artists such as Eason Chan, A-mei, and Fiona Sit. – China Daily/ANN
