Dr Wee wants Ammar to withdraw statement within 24 hours
PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong wants Pakatan Youth information chief Ammar Atan, whom he claims made defamatory remarks against him, to withdraw his statement within 24 hours.
“This is what I said in front of hundreds of media friends at the recent MCA media night on Feb 26,” he said on Facebook on Monday (March 3), attaching a video of his speech.
In the video, Dr Wee, who is also MCA president, said the RM57.57bil profit recorded by EPF was only for the first nine months of 2024.
He said EPF recorded a profit of RM66.99bil for 2023 but this was for the full 12 months of the year.
Ammar, who is also Amanah Youth vice-chief, had urged Dr Wee to apologise and withdraw his statement after EPF announced its 2024 dividend rates of 6.3% on March 1.
In an earlier post on March 1, Dr Wee had responded to Ammar’s statement, saying that he wants “to set the record straight”.
“A higher EPF dividend for 2024 does not erase the fact that losses from the ‘sell low, buy back high’ move involving MAHB shares did happen.
“In fact, the dividend could have been even higher if that had not occurred.
“At no point did I claim that EPF was in critical condition or there would be lower dividend for last year (2024),” he said.
