PMO: Refrain from words or actions that can disrupt national unity
PETALING JAYA: Any words or action that touch on 3R (race, religion and royalty) issues will only disrupt national harmony and must never be repeated, says the Prime Minister’s Office.
In the daily PMO briefing at 4.30pm on Tuesday (March 4), Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s senior press secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah said the Prime Minister reminds all quarters to avoid 3R polemic in any form and instead prioritise mutual respect in the community.
“The Prime Minister also stresses the importance for the public to uphold and embody the principles of the Rukun Negara to protect harmony as well as to reject any action that can disrupt national unity,” he said.
This comes after a video of several Era FM DJ’s mimicking the Hindu kavadi dance was shared on the station’s social media platforms on Tuesday morning.
The video received severe backlash from Malaysians online, with many condemning it offensive to the Hindu community.
Astro Audio has since apologised and expressed regret over the incident.
The three individuals involved have also been removed from the air until further notice.
The broadcaster said it is cooperating closely with the authorities and regulators to ensure full compliance with all guidelines and requirements.
