Teresa Kok’s former staff member remanded by MACC

PETALING JAYA: A former staff member for Teresa Kok has been remanded by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“I have no knowledge or involvement in the reasons behind the MACC’s decision,” said the Seputeh MP.

Asserting the independence of the MACC, Kok urged all parties to avoid “baseless speculation or making unfounded accusations.”

“We must allow the investigative process to proceed without obstruction,” she said.

She said the MACC on Thursday (March 6) morning summoned her former staff members, Edmund Teoh Kheng Yaik and Ng Yoot Kuen, in connection with a speech she made in Parliament where she questioned rationale behind the Federal Territory Education Department’s request for and provision of smartboards.

“I have been informed that Edmund Teoh has been remanded by the MACC for further investigation until Sunday (March 9),” she said in a statement on Thursday.

She said the speech, delivered on Nov 14, 2024, was shared publicly on her social media platforms.

“My speech was not an attack on any individual or department but a call for transparency,” she said.

She also expressed regret that she was being unfairly blamed by some party members and the families of her former staff.
