QuickCheck: Did a Singaporean crash his MPV into a JB restaurant?

MALAYSIAN food tastes better than Singaporean food. There, I said it.

Maybe that is why there is a viral video floating around claiming that a Singaporean man drove his MPV into a restaurant in JB. Did this really happen?

Johor Baru South Asst Comm Raub Selamat said police detected a viral video on social media showing a car crashing into a restaurant at Jalan Dato Abdullah Tahir.

“The incident, which occurred on March 5 at around 10.50pm, involved an MPV driven by a 46-year-old Singaporean and a parked car.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the MPV driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the restaurant, damaging its walls, chairs and tables. While reversing, the driver also hit the parked car,” he said.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

“The suspect was detained and subjected to a breathalyser test. However, during the second test, he refused to cooperate.

“Police then took him to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for a toxicology test to determine his alcohol levels,” ACP Raub said.

The case is being investigated under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol.

So, while he may claim that it was his hunger for Malaysian food that made him attempt an impromptu “drive-thru”, the real reason may have been his thirst.
