Lao PM calls for industrial development, sustainability while touring Xekong province

VIENTIANE: Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone has emphasised the importance of sustainable industrial development, and urged business owners to uphold environmental responsibility, improve production standards and strengthen the local economy.

He made the call while touring Xekong province on March 9, and also highlighted the need for continuous research and innovation in food processing to ensure high-quality products while simultaneously creating jobs and reducing reliance on imports.

The Prime Minister encouraged collaboration between the government and businesses to enhance infrastructure and integrate tourism with industrial growth.

Sonexay was accompanied by Xekong Governor Leklay Sivilay and local leaders when he visited key industrial sites in the province, ranging from a rice processing plant to a tapioca processing factory.

These enterprises play a crucial role in supporting local farmers and job creation and in contributing to the province’s agricultural economy.

During his visit, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of proper environmental management in various industrial operations.

He urged business owners to upgrade production techniques, maintain the quality of products, and enhance storage facilities.

He also called for further research into processing local fruits to maximise their value, and for integrating factory locations with tourism infrastructure such as accommodation and restaurants, and product exhibitions.

To ensure the long-term sustainability of these industries, he called for closer cooperation between provincial authorities and businesses, compliance with regulations, fair pricing for farmers, and the continuous development of Laos’ food processing sector. – Vientiane Times/ANN
