Convert property to freehold before it’s too late, Negri folk urged

SEREMBAN: Owners of leasehold properties in Negri Sembilan have been told to grab the opportunity to convert them to freehold as there is no guarantee how long the offer will remain, says Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (pic).

The Mentri Besar said although the state was the only one which allowed this, the response was not as good as expected.

“My hope is that the property owners will apply for their freehold titles fast, as there may come a time where we may decide to end the offer.

“Also, I would like to remind all that the offer is only for the original owners of the property.

“Once they pass on, the next of kin will not be eligible,” he told reporters after chairing the state exco meeting at Wisma Negri here yesterday.

He said those who have owned the leasehold properties since before May 9, 2018, can submit their applications at the district land office.

The title conversion was one of the pledges made by the state Pakatan Harapan in its manifesto before the 2018 general election.

Aminuddin said although the number of owners applying to convert their properties had been increasing, it was still low.

“The total number of people who have applied is still small.

“All owners should do so quickly,” he said.

However, he was unable to provide data on how many applications were received and approved.

On a separate matter, he said he would announce tomorrow whether he would be defending his vice-presidency in the upcoming PKR polls.

Aminuddin, who is also the incumbent chief of the party’s Port Dickson division, said he had received reports that others would be vying for the top post.

“I welcome any challenge in PD as this is all part and parcel of any election,” he added.
