Man gets fatal electric shock during cable theft attempt

IPOH: A man has been found dead at Taman Silibin here, and police believe he was electrocuted while trying to steal cables.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said they received a call at 6pm on Monday (March 24) that a man was found dead at Persiaran Rishah 27 near a petrol station close to the Ipoh-Lumut road.

He said a witness recorded a video at the scene showing the deceased with another suspect, still at large, cutting a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) cable, presumably to steal it.

“Suddenly, there was an explosion, causing both individuals to lose consciousness,” ACP Abang Zainal Abidin said on Tuesday (March 25).

“The second suspect later regained consciousness and fled the scene on a motorcycle.

“The case has been classified as sudden death.

“TNB has lodged a police report, and an investigation paper has been opened under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had 10 priors on his criminal record related to violent crime and property offences,” he said.

He added that anyone with information on this incident should contact Sjn Liyana Zulaikah Ibrahim at 019-7765184 or Sjn MT Michael Jevadas at 016-5325208.
