Prisons Department announces Hari Raya visit conditions for families

PETALING JAYA: The Prisons Department announces that families can visit inmates on the third and fourth day of Hari Raya.

This applies to all prison institutions, including moral rehabilitation centres, special rehabilitation centres, special detention centres, and Henry Gurney schools.

In a statement on Tuesday (March 25), the department set conditions for families visiting their relatives, both in person and online.

For in-person visits, the time is from 8.15am to 4.15pm, and visitors must bring their MyKad and visitor card for easier facilitation.

“Visitors are not allowed to bring food or drinks for inmates, as these can be bought at the prison cafeteria, with priority given to visits to Muslim inmates,” it said.

“Visitors are not encouraged to give money to inmates, as all basic services are provided by the Prisons Department.”

If visitors wish to give cash to inmates for purposes such as examination fees, they should obtain official receipts (PPT.28) as proof of payment.

The department said the Act and Prisons Regulations bind visitors and added that this allows the department to conduct checks when they enter and leave the prison.

Online visits are available from April 4 to 6 for families unable to visit in person.

“They can contact the department for further information,” it added.
