Over 1,700 premises checked in first three days of festive price control scheme, says Domestic Trade Ministry

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,751 premises across the country have been inspected by enforcement officers from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry within the first three days of implementing the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) for Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025.

The Ministry’s enforcement director-general Datuk Azman Adam said that 119 actions were taken, including two cases involving traders selling goods above the set maximum prices.

“At the ministry, we have 2,400 officers nationwide, supported by nearly 900 price monitors. We also receive a significant amount of information from the public, who report on the situation,” he said.

“The SHMMP initiative aims to regulate the prices of essential goods during the festive season, ensuring fair pricing and preventing exploitation.

“The government continues to urge traders to comply with the set price ceilings, warning that strict action will be taken against violators,” he said on the Malaysia Petang Ini programme, produced by Bernama TV on Wednesday (March 26).

Under the scheme, 26 types of goods are placed under price control, an increase from 22 types last year.

The four newly added items are small Indian red onions, carrots and coconut milk. Other controlled items include imported buffalo meat, mackerel, mustard greens, red chillies, garlic, imported potatoes, old ginger, as well as grated and whole coconuts. – Bernama
