Drive safe and stay alert, Anwar advises drivers in Hari Raya exodus

SHAH ALAM: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim advises those travelling back to their hometowns for Hari Raya Aidilfitri to drive safely and exercise caution on the roads.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of road safety, warning that the joy of Hari Raya Aidilfitri could be overshadowed by tragedy if accidents continue to rise, as they often do during the festive season.

“As Hari Raya Aidilfitri approaches, many will be returning to their hometowns. We urge drivers to stay alert and cautious to avoid accidents, as the numbers have already increased. We must do our best to prevent them.

“This is a reminder for everyone because our journey is meant to strengthen family ties for Hari Raya, but accidents can cause grief not only to us but also to our loved ones,” he told newsmen after performing Friday prayers with over 1,000 congregants at Masjid Jamek Raja Tun Uda in Seksyen 16 here Friday (March 28).

The Prime Minister also took time to mingle with congregants before heading to the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) Complex to observe the public’s preparations for Hari Raya.

Anwar spent about 30 minutes there browsing through the shops and checking prices at the shopping centre, a well-known landmark in Shah Alam and a popular spot for Bumiputera entrepreneurs.

Accompanied by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and state youth, sports and entrepreneurship committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi, Anwar greeted traders and visitors, who seemed delighted by the prime minister’s presence at the 48-year-old shopping complex. – Bernama
