DBKL to quiz officers over Jln TAR scuffle, says balloon vendor acted aggressively
PETALING JAYA: The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will be recording statements from enforcement officers involved in a scuffle with a balloon trader on Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.
“If needed, DBKL will look into the improvement of the standard operating procedure to ensure any untoward incidents.
“A police report was made by enforcement personnel who were involved in the altercation,” said DBKL in a statement on Saturday (March 29).
DBKL was responding to a viral video showing a brawl between enforcement officers with a balloon vendor at almost midnight on Friday (March 28).
“We wish to state what exactly happened at the location,” said DBKL.
It said the incident happened during a patrol along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman where traders were doing business along a pedestrian walkway.
“As usual, DBKL personnel will warn the traders before any action is taken. In this case, other traders moved away from the area, except the balloon trader, which led to a physical scuffle although he was warned twice to move away.
DBKL said the situation became tense when several other traders intervened although no injuries were reported.
“Strict action will be taken against anyone who runs businesses without legal licence and disrupts public order to ensure the regulations are adhered to,” it added.
