QuickCheck: Did a minor accident lead to a fight in Johor?

A VIDEO circulating on social media shows a minor accident between two cars with the wing mirrors of both vehicles being hit.

However, instead of stopping to exchange information and discuss any settlement, one motorist continues on his way.

The other follows him to some shophouses and confronts him, after which a scuffle ensues.

It is said that the incident occurred in Ayer Hitam, Johor. Did this happen there as claimed?

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the incident took place at Jalan Bahagia in Ayer Hitam at 6.20pm on Wednesday (April 2).

He said two men, aged 38 and 59, suffered minor injuries in the incident.

“The incident stemmed from a minor collision (involving the side mirrors) between the two cars,” he said in a statement on Thursday (April 3).

However, he said one party did not stop to discuss the matter but continued on his journey to the shophouses at Jalan Bahagia 1 in Taman Bahagia, and the other motorist followed him there.

“An argument and a brawl ensued between the two parties at the parking area of the shophouses,” he said.

ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat said a recording of the incident that was circulated on social media was found to depict the full sequence of events.

He said police received a report on the incident at 8.23pm the same evening when both parties involved went to the Batu Pahat district police headquarters.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 160 of the Penal Code for committing affray.
