T’ganu loses to Selangor, top four Super League hopes dashed
PETALING JAYA: Terengganu’s hopes of finishing in the top four of the Super League are fading after they lost 0-1 to Selangor on Saturday.
With only two matches remaining, the Turtles are in fifth with 32 points, behind Sabah with 36 points and a game in hand.
Finishing outside the top four will see Terengganu fail to play in the Asean Club Championship for the second straight season.
During the match at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium, Terengganu came close to scoring first in the 41st minute but the shot from Safawi Rasid just missed the goal.
Selangor, who recorded their 15th win this season and have confirmed their runners-up title, found their lone goal in the 88th minute after Alvin Fortes converted a pass from Faisal Halim.
Meanwhile, Penang took home three points from their visit to the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Seremban after winning 2-0 against Negri Sembilan.
Rahmat Makasuf was quick to find the back of the net as he gave Penang the lead in 13 minutes.
Captain Rafael Vitor then sealed the win late in the game as he converted a penalty kick in the 87th minute.
