Police personnel sustains gunshot wound at state HQ

GEORGE TOWN: A police officer is believed to have accidentally shot himself in the head.while at the guard post of the state police headquarters here on Tuesday (April 8).

Penang police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad confirmed the incident, said the 58-year-old corporal who was attached to the camp commandant branch at the state police headquarters was found severely wounded on the head at the guard post of the police headquarters at 6.12pm.

“The victim inflicted severe injuries to his head after he accidentally shot himself with a pistol,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

The victim was taken to Penang Hospital

Commr Hamzah stated that an investigation at the scene revealed that a single shot was fired from the weapon used by the victim. He mentioned that the case is being investigated under Section 39 of the Arms Act 1960.

He confirmed that the police are conducting a thorough investigation of the incident from all angles. Comm Hamzah also reported that the victim is currently receiving treatment and is alive.

He urged the public not to speculate about the case, as such speculation may interfere with the police investigation.
