Dry taps in Sabah assembly building amid complaints of water woes in various constituencies

KOTA KINABALU: A water supply disruption hit the ongoing session of the Sabah legislative assembly amid complaints by assemblymen about water woes in their respective constituencies.

The issue was immediately highlighted by assemblymen in the house as the water taps went dry in the toilets at the Sabah Assembly building on Wednesday (April 16).

The situation also went viral on the social media.

However, Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, who is also Works Minister, told the house that the water disruption at the building lasted only 10 minutes.

He said the taps went dry at 1pm and were back by 1.10pm at the assembly building.

“I went back five times to check if the water supply is alright before coming back into the assembly hall,” he told assemblymen while winding up debates for his ministry Wednesday (April 16).

Shahelmey said that there was a major burst pipe incident in the Bakut area of Tuaran on Monday (April 14) and this caused water supply disruptions to various areas including the assembly building here.

The contractor had just completed repairs to the burst pipe and water supply to affected areas was returning, he said.

Shahelmey also told the house that various short, medium and long term measures were being taken to resolve Sabah’s perennial water problems.
