Mother pleads for runaway daughter to return home

JOHOR BARU: A single mother is pleading for her teenage daughter to come home, nearly two months after she ran away from the family home in Batu Pahat.

Soh Shui Ping, 35, said her 15-year-old daughter, the eldest of four children, left their home in Taman Murni, Batu Pahat, on April 28.

She claims a man who befriended the family earlier this year when he came to their house to help has influenced her daughter.

“Our trouble began when my father’s car needed repairs. My father was told about someone who could fix cars, despite not being a mechanic.

“He came to our house and met my daughter. Soon after, I discovered he had obtained her mobile number, and they had been communicating,” she said.

Soh, a school canteen worker, shared this during a press conference organised by Johor Bersatu associate wing’s public complaints bureau chief Lim Thow Siang on Monday (June 9).

She added that her daughter’s behaviour began to change, and she even skipped school to follow the man.

“On April 23, my daughter’s teacher called, saying she went home with an unknown man. I immediately took her to a hospital for a medical check-up.

“I am relieved she was unharmed, but our relationship deteriorated, and on April 28, she ran away,” she said.

Soh has tried calling and messaging her daughter, but to date, she has received no reply and her calls go unanswered.

“I even spoke to her friends, but none know where she is,” she said, adding that she has lodged a police report and sought Lim’s help to find her daughter.

Meanwhile, Lim urged anyone with information about the missing teenager’s whereabouts to contact the police immediately.

“The 15-year-old is still a young child who may not think clearly and can be easily influenced,” he said. I urge those who know where she is to ensure she returns home safely to her mother and family,” he added.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani confirmed the police reports and said efforts are underway to locate the missing girl.
