Man killed in Gerik lorry-car collision

IPOH: A man in his 70s was killed and two others were injured when a 10-tonne lorry collided with a car near the Titiwangsa range in Gerik on Thursday (June 26).

The accident occurred as the vehicles were travelling from Gerik towards Jeli in Kelantan.

The male driver of the car sustained minor injuries, while a female passenger in the back suffered light injuries and was taken to hospital after complaining of chest pains.

The deceased, who was a front-seat passenger, sustained severe leg injuries and was trapped inside the car.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said they received a distress call around 1.02pm on Thursday.

He said a team from the Gerik Fire and Rescue Station was deployed to the scene, about 70km away.

“Upon arrival, rescuers found three victims inside the car, with the driver suffering minor injuries, a woman in the back seat with light injuries and chest pains, and the man in the front passenger seat.

“The man was severely injured and trapped in the vehicle. Firefighters used rescue tools and a stretcher to extricate him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical team,” he said.

He added that the injured woman was sent to Gerik Hospital for further treatment.

The case has been handed over to the police for further investigation.
